An elderly Southern heiress’s nightmare becomes a real case of murder in the latest Dream Club Mystery from the national bestselling author of Dream a Little Scream.

When Abigail Marchand, Savannah’s famously reclusive heiress, invites the Dream Club ladies to lunch at her Beaux Reeves mansion, Taylor and Ali hope for an invitation to join the distinguished Magnolia Society. But Abigail has a more pressing concern: a recent dream that seems to foretell her death.

Taylor reassures Abigail that there are many ways to interpret a dream, but at the next meeting of the Dream Club, their discussion is cut short by a call from Detective Sam Stiles. She’s at Abigail’s mansion, where the elderly woman appears to have been pushed to her death down a flight of stairs. Now Taylor, Ali, and the Dream Club need to catch a killer before someone else is laid to rest.

Dollycas’s Thoughts
Mary Kennedy keeps topping herself with each subsequent installment to this series.

This time she takes us Beaux Reeves mansion, a wondrous place that not many of the residents of Savannah have been invited. Well they may have been invited to an event in the garden but never inside. Ali and Taylor are so excited to have been invited along with the other Dream Club members for lunch at the estate, but they are totally wrong about why they were asked.  Abigail Marchand,  a recluse and heiress, has asked them to come to interpret a dream. A dream that she believes indicates her death. The club members do their best to ease her fears. But then just a short time later, during a Dream Club, meeting they learn that the woman has died, and evidence says she was murdered. Can the Dream Club help shed light on killer?

I love these characters. Their group is so interesting. Unique in that their dreams can actually help solve a murder. I am not sure if there are really people out there that can do this but this author has grabbed my attention in all three of these books and made me think it may be possible. If not, it makes for a really good story.

In addition to the Dream Club meetings Ali and Taylor drawn in even farther just interpreting dream and a little investigating. There are several suspects, more than you would think for a woman that never left her home.  TheY are put in a place where their observations can help them solve the case. I enjoyed that everyone really had to think and had different theories as it pertained to the murder. It sure wasn’t cut and dried. It was very entertaining to read.

I also enjoyed the little snippets of time at Oldies but Goodies. Thankfully Taylor and Ali have a great employee that can handle the store while are out chasing down suspects and trying to catch the killer.

This is a series that should be read in order. To enjoy it fully you need to meet the characters from the start and learn about their idiosyncrasies and the way the Dream Club works.

When a psychologist hits Florida’s airwaves, there’s no telling who she’s reaching…

…and there’s no telling who wants to reach back.

Maggie left her clinical practice in Manhattan and moved to sunny Cypress Grove, Florida, where she became host of WYME’s “On the Couch with Maggie Walsh.” From co-dependent wives to fetish fiends, all the local crazies love her show.

Then threats start pouring in against one of the station’s special guests-self-styled new age prophet Guru Sanjay Gingii. When one of the threats becomes a deadly reality, Maggie’s new roommate, Lark, is surprisingly the prime suspect. Now, Maggie has to prove Lark innocent while dealing with a killer who needs more than just therapy…

Dollycas’s Thoughts

Talk radio is all my husband listens to but I don’t think he has ever tuned in to a program like “On the Couch with Maggie Walsh.” She gets some very unusual callers. First time and long time callers call in to talk about a variety of topics. She even has special guests like the controversial Guru Sanjay Gingii. He has his followers but he also has his enemies. Maggie has even received a threat at the station to scare her from having him on the show. Shortly after appearing on her show the guru is found dead in his hotel room. Maggie is surprised when the police show up at her door, but they are not there for her, they are there for her roommate, Lark.  What that’s crazy! Lark wouldn’t kill anyone or would she???

Mary Kennedy introduces us to a variety of characters. Maggie, of course, who seems to be a very intelligent woman but not a lot of common sense at times, which was funny in a book, wouldn’t be so funny in real life. Her roommate Lark has a past and Maggie finds out she didn’t know her as well as she thought. Her producer, Vera Mae Atkins, is a hoot, the first chapter is just the start of radio romp. The guru’s followers, staff, and exes make for a large pool of suspects. Maggie’s mom, Lola was my favorite character. She wanted to help Maggie investigate and she was crazy funny. Maggie is also trying to impress a certain detective which adds to the fun.

The radio show theme was unique for me. It did remind of the Frasier television show, his relationship with Roz was very similar to Maggie and Vera, only with a dead body added. The behind the scenes complete with a foreign receptionist who is learning English to a pompous sports announcer all blended together to make this a very interesting read.

The mystery plot was full of twists including the final one that was a total surprise. I was sure I had it all figured out and you guessed it, wrong again.

This was a good debut for this series. I want to see how these characters evolve in the next 2 books, Reel Murder and Stay Tuned for Murder.

The Cozy Chicks realized that tea was such a perfect complement to cozy mysteries that we decided to write a book about it. Not only does Tea Time with the Cozy Chicks have delicious recipes, but it also includes themed tea menus, fascinating articles, fun facts, curious quotes, and helpful hints on how to host the most memorable tea parties ever! And for an extra treat, a few of us have included excerpts of our work as well! Read, cook, drink tea, savor, and most of all enjoy!

guest post

Tea parties have been around for well over 3,000 years. People on all parts of the earth have tea parties every day. So sit down, pour yourself a cup of tea, and let me tell you about Tea Time With the Cozy Chicks.

First of all who are the Cozy Chicks? If you haven’t visited our blog before, please pop by http://www.cozychicksblog.com. It’s a great way to get to know us and to catch a glimpse at the crazy life of a mystery writer. The Cozy Chicks are…Ellery Adams, Lorraine Bartlett, Duffy Brown, Kate Collins, Mary Kennedy, Mary Jane Maffini, Maggie Sefton, Leann Sweeney.

We write cozy mysteries and in our books characters often gather around the table to discuss cases. They drink a staggering amount of caffeinated beverages and seem to be surrounded by an endless array of mouth-watering sandwiches, cookies, pastries, and chocolate. In short, these gals in our books have a pretty good time…unless theyre chasing the killer…and we thought it would be fun to spend a little time in their world.

The result is Tea Time With The Cozy Chicks filled with the lore of tea in so many of its incarnations. The book offers an assortment of tea parties like how to have a Bon Voyage tea, bachelorette tea, proper Yorkshire Tea, Chocolate Lovers tea etc. There are menus for each party, invitation suggestions, decorations, flowers, table settings, recipes galore and all hosted by characters from our books to add to the fun.

An afternoon tea party is suitable for many celebrations and isn’t as involved as a dinner party. Often a tea party can be the answer to friends just getting together. It’s an ideal format for a simple elegant party where the food is prepared before your guests arrive and is either presented buffet style, or by passing plates of goodies at the table. The best thing about a tea party is that the only thing you need to serve is the tea itself, leaving you plenty of time to relax and enjoy your guests.

There is more in Tea Time With the Cozy Chicks than just tea parties. There are ideas on tea paring, tea towels, antique teapots and cups, reading tea leaves and the book gives favorite tearooms that we’ve discovered. These are tearooms that Duffy Brown came across in Savannah and on Mackinac Island. These tearooms are filled with charm and delicious tea, pastries and delicious sandwiches and are just for you here and not included in the book.

She’s Here! She’s Here! Mary Kennedy is here today! Her book
Dream a Little Scream was released August 4!

“The Wonderful Wacky World of Dreams”
by Mary Kennedy

Anything can happen in a dream. You can take on a new persona, explore lands both real and imaginary and have adventures worthy of Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean. Since dreams are not subject to time and space constraints, you can share a plate of marrons with Marie Antoinette (“Let them eat cake!”) one night and be part of the first space mission (“Houston, we have a problem.”) the following evening.

Isn't this cover beautiful!! ?

Isn’t this cover beautiful!! ?

But what are we to make of the strange dream images that flit through our minds as we sleep? They seem so real while we’re experiencing them, and sleep studies reveal that our bodies react to dreams with real-life physical stress. Are you climbing a mountain in your dream or swinging from a zip line like Angelina Jolie? Your blood pressure may soar, your heartbeat may ratchet up a notch and your chest may feel tight. If you awake and take a few deep breaths, everything will return to normal in a few minutes.

On the other hand, what if you’re dreaming of lounging in a meadow, taking in the sweet scent of honeysuckle as you thumb through a book of poetry? Your body will show signs that you are indeed, at rest. Your heart rate will ratchet down and your breathing will become slower as your mind enjoys this respite from the cares of the day.

In any case, it’s fun to explore our dreams and what they really mean, as the characters in the Dream Club do. The members like to think that they are uncovering clues to solving murders in Savannah and they seem to have had some success. They combine intuition with solid sleuthing skills and some dream work. But do clues from their dreams really solve crimes? Is it luck, or coincidence or a combination of the two? I leave it to the reader to decide.

The national bestselling author of Nightmares Can Be Murder once again gathers together the members of the Dream Club in Savannah, Georgia, where the book tour of a famous chef becomes a recipe for disaster…

Behind her down-home folksy persona, celebrity chef Sonia Scott is a real Dixie diva who’s made plenty of enemies in her climb to the top of the culinary world. One of them is the newest member of the Dream Club, Etta Mae Beasley, who claims Sonia stole her family’s recipes and used them in her latest cookbook.

After Sonia’s suspicious death from anaphylactic shock at a book signing held at Taylor and Ali’s retro candy store, Etta’s revelation sows seeds of doubt in Taylor Blake’s mind. Now the Dream Club needs to put their heads together to determine if one of their own decided to give the chef her just desserts…

Dollycas’s Thoughts

We return to Oldies but Goodies, the fantastic candy store filled with all the candy we loved when we were kids. This time Ali and Taylor are trying to expand their business by adding some yummy deserts. They have invited celebrity chef Sonia Scott to have a book signing in their shoppe. They sweetened the pot by offering to serve items only from Sonia’s cookbooks. The chef agrees and the store quickly fills with her fans. But during the book signing something goes terribly wrong and the author has an allergic reaction to something she ate and dies. The girl’s need the Dream Club to help them figure out what happened before their candy shoppe is as dead as Chef Sonia.

I just love these characters. I used to be quite a vivid dreamer and a Dream Club sounds like a dream come true when you want to determine what your dreams really mean. The club has a couple of new members, Etta Mae Beasley and Edward Giles. Edward is a botany professor and Etta Mae recently moved to town. She has a personal connection with Chef Sonia and her company. Everyone tries to make them feel welcome and of course Dorien is her normal pushy self.

I was drawn in immediately but Sonia’s nut allergy as I have a nut allergy too. I have only had one occurrence that required medical attention in my entire life and that was the day I learned of my allergy. Heck, I have not even had a Epi-Pen prescribed but when I read stories like this I think I should have one.

Kennedy has again given us quite a mystery to sink our teeth into. Of course Ali and Taylor are on the list of suspects because Sonia died at Oldies but Goodies but there are so many other suspects that could have done it. My mind was whirling with all the possibilities. But I was following the clues right along with the Dream Club and figured it out at the same time they did.

The dreams of the club added a very interesting element to the story. I learned how concentrating on something can truly effect your dreams. I love that one member of the club has a special gift that allows her to jump into other people’s dream. I also see where this can be both a good thing and a bad thing 🙂

This is a fabulous follow up to Nightmares Can Be Murder. I do recommend reading the books in order so you get to know this wonderful cast of characters from the beginning. They make perfect bedtime reading that could encourage some very sweet dreams or maybe dreams to help solve a murder, lol. Let’s just strive for Sweet Dreams!

Dream Team

Business consultant Taylor Blake has returned to Savannah, Georgia, to help her sister Allison turn her dream of running an old-fashioned candy store into a reality. Allison is also interested in dream interpretation and invites Taylor to her Friday night Dream Club, where members meet once a week to share and analyze their dreams.

When a local dance instructor, Chico Hernandez, is found dead in his studio, and the murder scene has an eerie resemblance to one of the dreams shared at their meeting, Taylor can’t help but be intrigued. And when her sister, who was briefly involved with the dance teacher, becomes the prime suspect, Taylor and their fellow club members can’t be caught napping. It’s up to them to dream up a solution to the murder before Allison faces a real-life nightmare…

Dollycas’s Thoughts

I am a vivid dreamer so the premise of this series is very exciting to me. I had never heard of a Dream Club. This one has some very interesting members and their meeting place is an old fashion candy store owned by Allison Blake. Her sister, Taylor has taken some time away from her life in Chicago and has come to Savannah to help her sister make a real success of Oldies but Goodies, a candy shop that features all the candy we loved as kids.

We meet Lucinda Macavy as she enters Dream Club and announces “I dreamt I was walking stark naked down the produce aisle in Publix.” Sybil self proclaimed dream expert wants more details. The Harper Sisters, Minerva and Rose, who are in their 80’s, relate to how cold that aisle of the grocery store can be. Dorien, self proclaimed psychic and tarot card reader,  tries to deflect the entire conversation and turn it to something about her dreams. Samantha Stiles, a police detective and Taylor both just want the meeting to end. Neither of them wanted to be there but it is her sister’s club so Taylor is trying to pay attention. That becomes much easier when Persia starts to share her dream that included a murder!

Mary Kennedy has given us a wonderful group of core characters.  She has also given us pretty shady victim opening the door to quite a variety of suspects.  The plot continue to twist and turn throughout the story and I sure didn’t figure out this whodunit until the characters did.

I am also  thrilled with the candy store setting. These shops are popping up all over and I love being able to find all the candies from my childhood. The story made me remember even more that I had long forgotten.

The was a bit of humor and a hint of romance too that always makes a cozy mystery everything we dream about. The  Dream Symbol Guide at the end of the story was enlightening too. Maybe someday I will figure out what my crazy dreams mean 🙂

This story is a wonderful debut for this series. I am already dreaming about the next installment.
