I am excited to share Owls Are Good at Keeping Secrets with you today!

Owls are Good at Keeping Secrets: An Unusual Alphabet
Children’s Story
Age Range: 3 – 7 years
Grade Level: Preschool – 2
Random House Books for Young Readers (December 4, 2018)
ISBN-10: 1524713317
ISBN-13: 978-1524713317
Kindle ASIN: B07BD2DPGG

A delightful book of curious, little-known “facts” about animals–one for each letter of the alphabet!

Did you know that chipmunks love to stay up past their bedtime? Or that dragons cry at happy endings? I bet you’d never have guessed that iguanas sometimes get homesick at sleepovers.

Sara O’Leary pulls back the curtain on the animal world and gives us an absolutely charming little one-line “fact” about one animal for each letter of the alphabet. Kids will love to see their own quirks reflected in these adorably rendered creatures, and perhaps will be comforted to know that–just like them–narwhals can be perfectly happy all on their own and quail also get tired of being told to be quiet.

Dollycas’s Thoughts

Amy Krouse Rosenthal and Brigette Barrager reunite to bring us a sparkly, magical sequel to Uni the Unicorn!

The Land of Unicorns is in trouble — it has been raining and raining for what seems like forever. This is a big problem because there are only three ways that unicorns can get their magic: from the golden sun, from magnificent rainbows, and from the sparkle of believing.

Luckily, Uni the Unicorn has always always always believed…that little girls are REAL. Join this very special unicorn and the little girl who believes right back as they finally meet and work together to save a magical land and all who live there!

Amy Krouse Rosenthal and Brigette Barrager reunite to revive this world glowing with possibility and hope that is the stuff of childhood fantasies.

Nana’s Thoughts

The 1st book in the series Uni the Unicorn was a big hit around here. In fact, since its release I have given the book as gifts for baby showers, birthdays and Christmas. When I learned that there was a new Uni book being released I was very excited to review it.

The first thing you notice about the book is the impressive illustrations starting on the cover and continuing throughout the book. They draw children and adults right into the story.

When we enter the Land of the Unicorns it has been raining for days. No sunshine, no rainbows, no magic.  Uni believes a little girl (because little girls are real) can make the rain go away. A cute little blonde girl that could be my granddaughter may be just the thing. What happens when they make the same wish at the same time? Well, you have to read the book. It really is a delightful story.

The age range of 3 – 7 is correct. A read to them story until they can start reading it to us. Those are the best stories. I am positive one little blonde girl is going to love this story when she comes to visit. The book will again make a nice gift for a child too with Christmas fast approaching.

Nana’s Thoughts

A cute story about a cute monster. Children are encouraged to shake, tilt, and make loud noises to make the monster move along and get out of the book. My four year old grandson giggled the whole way through and we read it several times in a row. I loved that soon he was “reading to me” because he had memorized most of the story.

The illustrations are delightful too.

A wonderful book for a child’s bookshelf.

That’s Me Loving You

Age Range: 3 – 7 years
Grade Level: Preschool – 2
Random House Books for Young Readers (December 27, 2016)
Hardcover: 40 pages
ISBN-13: 978-1101932384

Wherever you are,
Wherever you go,
Always remember
And always know. . .

That feeling you always have in your heart?
That’s me loving you.

Amy Krouse Rosenthal captures parents’ desire to be ever-present in this simple and touching poem offering reassurance of their love. Signs of affection can be found in the natural world around us—from a soft breeze to a shimmering star.

Nana’s Thoughts

When I was asked to review this book I saw the title and read the snippet – a touching picture book, written in soothing rhymes, that reassures kids of how deeply they are loved, and quickly requested a copy. I had no idea how profoundly this book would touch my heart and be such a perfect book for my granddaughter, now 4 years old. The only thing that would make the book more perfect would be if the mom and son on the cover and at the end of the story would be a dad and daughter. As we near the 2 year anniversary of my son’s death my heart is breaking like it was yesterday and my granddaughter is talking about her daddy all the time.

That feeling you always have in your heart?
That’s me loving you.

Of course, this book would also be perfect for a parent and child that spend time apart when the parent goes to work or on a trip. It just speaks to me in a way that says the parent is gone forever, with the exception of the final page.

That shimmering star?
That’s me winking at you.

That drifting cloud?
That’s me thinking of you.

Beautifully written and illustrated but I think there needed to be one more page repeating the title – That’s me loving you, because the book ends abruptly and loses the flow that was so perfect. I was trying desperately to turn the page to finish the story that way it should have been done.

I can’t wait to share this story with my granddaughter the next time she comes for a visit.
