HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE!

I hope you are all doing well and sheltering in place and participating in social distancing. Mr. Dollycas and I are co-existing in our work area well but our dogs are totally confused because he never leaves. Their nap schedule is completely messed up. Thanks to the nicer weather we are able to open the windows and the door and freshen up the house. The dogs love being able to go outside and lounge in the yard again. We also have a huge bunny rabbit taking refuge in our backyard. The dog’s vision is pretty impaired as they are now almost 17 so they don’t even see him, and he is pretty quick so they have no chance of catching him. This is the time of year when we start to do things with the kids and the grands and this darn virus throws a monkey wrench into that for everyone everywhere. As I write this on Saturday we are expecting Daughter #1 and the boys to come up to do a little yard raking and furniture moving.  We have all been pretty isolated and following all the rules. Stay Safe and Take Care!

HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE!

Working Together

I hope you are all staying safe and at home as much as possible. We are entering Week #2 with Mr. Dollycas working at home. It has been interesting but we are coexisting in the same room without much trouble. My day has been running a little longer than is since now that he is not driving into the office so he still doesn’t get I don’t “punch out” at 5 p.m. I am at my desk until I get my blog posts done and tweet about the blog tours one last time.  We are so lucky that our children are grown and we don’t have to add homeschooling to our days. My hearts go out to those who are juggling children’s needs and their work too.

On top of all the closed businesses, it is the healthcare system that has been taking the real pressure. Not enough Personal Protective Equipment or ventilators just should be happening in a strong country like ours. I know our President wants to open the country back up but we can’t be foolish, especially when doctors are saying the virus could be cyclical. I can only hope that intelligent and knowledgable people who have actual facts can keep the country on the right track. We all need to work together to get us through this terrible crisis.

Happy Birthday in Heaven

With what would have been Kris’ 35th birthday today, we had Miss Natalie in the house for the weekend. Yesterday we baked a birthday cake in his honor. She and Papa also baked some cookies. She spent a lot of time with “Aunt Z.Z.” aka Daughter #2 too watching movies and other girl stuff. She started her distance learning last week and Kaden and Remi start distance learning tomorrow morning when they have to sign in to their computers at 8 a.m. Such a strange time with this virus. We won’t know its full effects it will have on our children for a long time.

HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE!

Working from Home

Another week dealing with the Coronavirus Pandemic. More and more states are asking people, even those in necessary fields to work from home if possible. Mr. Dollycas works for a mobile x-ray company that sends x-ray technologists into nursing homes and assisted living centers as the Operations Coordinator. Starting tomorrow he will be working from home. His entire work station will be delivered early in the day and he will be setting up shop directly behind me. This should be very interesting. I really enjoy my alone time, just me and the dogs. The kids are already taking bets on how long this arrangement will last before one of us has to move to another room or I change my work hours. 😀  Daughter #1, Daughter #2 and Son #2 are all still working at their necessary jobs using proper safety protections as are the x-ray techs.

As you have all probably seen grocery store shelves are still having hard times staying full. Thankfully, our daughter-in-law works at a store and was able to get us a good supply of toilet paper and daughter #2 has been stopping at several places around the area to stock our shelves at home with our favorites and needs.

We need to remember these store clerks, managers, and others are on the front lines so that the rest of us can shelter at home. Most have been advised to wear masks but with the shortage that is almost impossible. I am so proud of the women at my hometown store that are making their own fabric masks to keep themselves and their co-workers safe. I see stories of this happening everywhere. People taking action where they can is so uplifting.

I do my best to keep politics off this page but our government has really dropped the ball regarding this virus and keeping us and all the people on the front lines safe. In a country as wonderful as this one Personal Protective Equipment in hospitals and for other services should be a high priority as well as providing all supplies necessary to take care of the sick and supplies to test those that may be carrying the virus. This administration has been more reactive instead of proactive from the start and we see how well that is working. Please stay safe. Together we will get through this.

HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE!

Pandemic Proportions

The world is so crazy now as everyone tries to deal with the Coronavirus, now labeled a Pandemic. Everything is being canceled or postponed. Businesses are closing and people are working from home. People are hoarding toilet paper, except in this house, we are almost out :).

Things don’t really change for me because I always work from home. Mr. Dollycas works for a mobile x-ray company so he is still sending techs into nursing homes properly garbed to protect them. Daughter #2 now works at a bank and they are taking all kinds of protections to stay open. Daughter #1’s family has been fighting the regular flu this past week. She will return to work when she feels better as her job definitely can’t be done from home. The same with son #2. Natalie’s mom works at a grocery store so she will continue to work taking all the precautions necessary. With all the schools in the state closing down on Wednesday grandparents may be called into service to watch the kids.

I think the biggest thing is not to panic. We need to wash our hands a lot, stay out of crowds, curtail travel and use common sense. Stop hoarding the toilet paper 😉 The U.S. is strong and we will get through this.

Today marks the 5th anniversary of
my son’s death by suicide.

5 Years – 60 Months – 1827 Days – 43847.5 Hours – 2,630,850 Minutes – 157, 851,000 Seconds

Since we were told you were gone. Our hearts broke and our lives were forever changed.

This year we are not getting together as we usually do to mark this date. The virus played into that but we had thought of transitioning to getting together later in the month around his birthday. We will have to play it by ear though to see what is happening in the world.

Over the years to deal with the pain and guilt that comes with a death like this I try to post here and on social media to raise suicide awareness. I wish I would have known more and been able to help Kris through his struggle to have a different outcome. I try to share what I have learned to help others so other families don’t have to go through the immense pain of losing a loved one to suicide. I wish I could do more.

I know too many people from all walks of life suffer from depression and feel the world would be better off without them. It is important to tune into your family and friends and watch for the Warning Signs.

Also if you are struggling yourself, please reach out. There are people that love and care about you and are willing to help. You are not alone!

If you are in crisis, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255) or contact the Crisis Text Line by texting TALK to 741-741.

HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE!

My Weekend

My Friday evening started with smiles as Thomas came running in the house like a whirling dervish. He is feeling better and wouldn’t even slow down so I could get a picture. Grabbing a picture of Charlotte was much easier as she was sound asleep. Her daddy was here to pack up the Bearded Dragons and take them to their new home. I am not going to lie, I am going to miss them. They were very entertaining to watch.

Charlotte is doing well in her new place. She rolls everywhere she wants to go, can cover a lot of ground in her walker too . . . going backwards,  is saying Mama, and baba, hoping Dada will be coming soon. Thomas is getting used to the new place and is very excited about it. He was talking so fast I couldn’t catch everything he was trying to tell me 🙂 I am blessed that they live here in town so I will get to see them much more often than the other grands. I truly wish we all lived closer because grandchildren in the house always brightens my day.

The weekend has been pretty quiet. The sun is shining, the snow is melting, temps in the 40s and 50s, and I am loving it. I am so ready for Spring. How about you?

HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE!

A Grand Weekend

Did you have a good week last week? Did you make good use of the extra February day?

My week was filled with books, blogging, watching my favorite television programs with a trip out of the house on Wednesday for a doctor’s appointment. The snow is melting and the sun is shining.

On Friday afternoon Miss Natalie arrived for the weekend. She was joined later in the day by Miss Charlotte who visited on and off all weekend as her mommy and daddy moved to a new apartment. Thomas was sick so he spent the weekend with his dad. Nana, Papa, and Daughter #2  had a lot of fun with the girls too. There is always so much joy when the grands are in the house.

Charlotte also celebrated being 6 months old last week. Time sure flies!

Around the Blogosphere

I also did some traveling around the blogosphere and found this sad news for authors published by Henery Press posted at Writer Beware. The headline reads:

MASS CONTRACT CANCELLATIONS AT MYSTERY PUBLISHER HENERY PRESS

Click the headline to read the story. I feel so bad for the authors dealing with this.

I also found this picture on Facebook that fits me pretty perfectly all too often.

HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE!

Just Me and My Dogs

After Mr. Dollycas being home sick on Monday and Tuesday, I was so happy to get back to my normal routine of just me and the dogs the rest of the week. We are pretty set in our ways with me at the computer and them wanting to go outside every hour in the morning, finally settling down for their afternoon nap about 1 p.m. I even stepped away from the computer early a couple of days to do some reading. Watch for my review this week of In An Instant by Suzanne Redfearn. It was an emotional read and very hard to put down. It was also a little break from the cozy mysteries I usually read.

As I am typing this I received a call from Daughter #1. She is home sick with a 102+ fever. Totally different from the cold Mr. Dollycas had. Daughter #2 is on her way to pick up the boys so she can rest. I just hope and pray they don’t bring her bug with them. That is the last thing we need. But I have been missing them so I am glad they are headed this way.

I hope everyone is healthy and well at your house.

~Lori

HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE!

My Funny Valentine

My date for Valentine’s Day was my granddaughter Charlotte Marie. She stayed here with us so her parents could have a Valentine’s date night. Her big brother was here too but he must have had a big day because he fell asleep after watching about 10 minutes of The Incredibles. She was full of smiles and showed off her Army crawl and rolling talents. She is growing too fast. I can’t believe she will be 6 months old in just a couple of weeks.

Life in the blog world was busy with book tours and reviews. I awarded my first Paradise rating of 2020 to The Book Of Candlelight by Ellery Adams.  I made a few adjustments to my blog too. I am really loving the theme and it is fun making all the new graphics to match.

Daughter #2 started a new job at a local bank and is loving it. She is in training right now, but she comes home every night with a smile on her face. Something she lost working at her last job. I am excited for her.

Blog Updated

As you can see my blog has been updated. I decided a couple of weeks ago that the theme recommended to me needed much more code intelligence that I possess so I did a search myself and found one that fit my needs and was much simpler to implement. They have great support too.  I had a couple of questions and received a reply within just a few hours. The hardest thing was choosing the background. I went back in forth between two for days and finally, Daughter #2 finally made the decision. But it is really easy to change so I can change it when the mood strikes. There are still a few tweaks to make so let me know what you think. It was important to the beachy theme but that truly is my perfect escape.

Yesterday was also the 11th anniversary of my mother’s passing. she is constantly in my thoughts. I am who I am because of her. Yes, sometimes I open my mouth and her words come out 🙂
