The Sunday Salon used to be a meme but was getting so huge it became unmanageable, so it is now a Facebook group that has become an
informal week in review gathering place for bloggers.

It is also a place to share our thoughts about things of a bookish nature.

Our Day started yesterday with the Walk For Hope/Suicide Prevention and Awareness.

It was 93 DEGREES!!

We are blessed with this wonderful family and a little heat was not enough to keep us from remembering Kris on this day
and earn money to help others in an effort to #StopSuicide.

The walk ended about noon and then we needed to travel about 90 minutes away for Kaden’s football game. He made some awesome plays and his team is 3-0 this season. I felt so sorry the kids in those uniforms running around, we were melting on the sidelines as the temp climbed to 95 and there was very little shade. The played in Division 3 college stadium which was really cool.

Then the grandkids came home with us for a sleepover! They should be going home sometime early this afternoon, then Nana and Papa may need to take a quick nap before the Packer Game. I may be watching the NASCAR race through my eyelids.

This was a difficult week for me, hard to stay on task and made some really stupid mistakes. Thankfully nothing that couldn’t be fixed. At least I know why. Last week was Suicide Prevention Week and Friday was the 30 month anniversary of my son’s death. I struggled all week because I wanted to put posts on social media for suicide awareness and I did, but I still just can’t wrap my head around the fact that it has been 30 months that he has been gone. So the week was rough but to I have so share another thing I am trying to wrap my head around. A Happy Thing! Last Saturday went spent part of the day at a football game. Kaden’s 1st game of the season and when we arrived, this is who greeted us.

Kaden in a uniform complete with a helmet and pads. Still touch, no tackling but WOW what a step up from last Spring.

He played his first away game yesterday and his team won by 3 touchdowns. We will have a busy Saturday next week with a Suicide Prevention Walk For Hope in the morning and then going to another away game for Kaden in the afternoon. I have a feeling as the grandkids continue to grow our traveling around the state is going to increase and I am thrilled about that.

It has been a rough few weeks here in the U.S. Our prayers go out to all those affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma and those affected by and fighting the wildfires out west. There will be a telethon on television on Tuesday night and ABC had a “Day of Giving” last week. While both these efforts and the Red Cross seems focused on hurricane relief you can also give to the Red Cross for those affected by the wildfires.

Back to School

The three grands went back to school this past week. Kaden in 4th Grade, Natalie in 5K and Remi in 4K. They are growing so fast and summer ended much too soon for this Nana. I am so excited for them and what this new year brings. Their smiles sure make me smile. 🙂

Losing my son to suicide has been so difficult. Since then I wake up thinking about him, go to sleep thinking about him, and basically think of him almost every minute of the day. I never want any other mother to feel the pain I feel. Being disabled and unable to drive leaves me pretty home bound but I have this computer and I use it to promote suicide prevention and awareness year round but since September is designated as Suicide Prevention Month and September 10 -16, 2017 is designated as NATIONAL SUICIDE PREVENTION WEEK I strive to highlight facts, tips, and warning signs in my quest to #StopSuicide on my personal Facebook and Google + pages every day of this month. My family is also participating in a Walk for Hope on September 23 in memory of Kris. Donations are always welcome.

If you are in crisis, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255) or contact the Crisis Text Line by texting TALK to 741-741.

Happy Sunday Everyone!

Long story – As a blogger I am on Facebook every day, connecting with friends and family, talking about books, promoting Great Escapes Book Tours, playing Words with Friends, you know, normal stuff. Wednesday morning a few minutes after I posted for the first time, a friend messaged me about a message she had received from me. I had not sent her a message. Then I saw my account had sent a lot of messages. I quickly posted that “if you receive a post from me, don’t open it, I have been hacked.” Then I changed my password, sent feedback to Facebook that I had been hacked and started to delete permanently several hundred messages.

Then about an hour later, friends were sent another message, not my me! I changed my password again. Then I received a reply from Facebook directing me in the steps to follow to “clean my account”. Following those steps I found the app the hacker had attached to my account and was able to delete that, but not before another group of messages was sent.

I was trying to follow to rest of the steps but I kept receiving an error message that said “this address has been block by the user”, which would be me! I was so upset. I started Skyping” with my husband because he is more tech savvy than me but with him not sitting here and seeing the screens he was not much help.

I switched over from Chrome to Firefox and was able to complete all the steps. Then I went back to Chrome and saw in the small print of the error messages I was receiving “check your extensions” so I went into my Chrome settings and sure enough, an extension had been added that blocked the Facebook help messages.

I thought I was done, but no I was just getting started. Someone, maybe more than one of the person, not only reported that “a friend has been hacked” to Facebook but also reported that I was “sharing malware”. They quarantined my device. To gain access from this computer to Facebook they wanted to remotely scan my computer to be sure there was no malware. I had run a security scan myself in the midst of all this drama and it found 1 questionable thing that was blocked. I was really scared, how did I know this was a legit thing. Maybe it was a hacker.

After talking again to my husband and receiving another verification from Facebook I let them start their scan. It got hung up at about 49% and then my internet went out. I thought “oh, great! I am so stupid.” I have found out since the internet outage was local and had nothing to do with the scan. My husband was on his way home and would be here soon so he told me to start the scan again, so I did. Again it hung up at about 52%. I was absolutely losing my mind.

My husband thought it was an internet problem more than a Facebook problem so we started it again. It was now about 8 p.m. We worked on a plan for me to use a different computer the next day if necessary and I went to read. About 11 p.m. I checked the computer again and the scan was just finishing and found no malware. I posted a test post on Facebook and went to bed.

The next day I was able to post on my fan pages, comment on posts in my news feed and even post to my news feed, but when I tried to post directly to my personal page I was told that was restricted until later in the day which I didn’t understand that but soon things were back to normal.

Moral of the long story,

  1. Change your passwords often.
  2. Don’t open messages that only have a link with no explanation.
  3. Check the Facebook page of the person who sent you the link to see if they have posted they we hacked. If they haven’t tag them in a post telling them you think they have been hacked.
  4. When you report the situation to Facebook be sure to check the right boxes. While I was glad this worked out and now know my computer has been scanned by two sources it would have been devastating to lose my account because I was said to be “sharing malware”. It would mean 9 years of posts, pictures and memories on several pages and groups.

Fun Day Monday!

This past Monday my family headed to Wisconsin Dells for a Family Fun Day and we had such a good time. We started at the Timbavati Wildlife Park where the grandkids were able to hold a baby kangaroo, my oldest daughter was kissed by a giraffe and Mr Dollycas got up close and personal with a camel.

Then we took a ride on the Original Wisconsin Ducks!

We finished the day at Buffalo Phil’s Pizza and Grill where the food was delivered by a model train. We were then headed home when we got caught up in a massive traffic job on the interstate due to road construction. But that couldn’t damper the wonderful day. We knew our angel Kris was with us that day too. Thunderstorms were in the forecast all day and they would have ruined all our fun. There were a few sprinkles in the morning when we left home and a few late in the afternoon as we were walking down the main street of Wisconsin Dells but the storms seemed to go around the city. Wisconsin Dells was one of Kris’ favorite places and we all shared memories and talked about him and for the very first time there were no tears. We all know we carry him in our hearts and know he made our day extra special.

If you have the chance to visit Wisconsin Dells you will love it, there is so much to do. It is the “Waterpark Capital of the World” 🙂

Not seeing my grandsons since July 4 was hard, but this weekend the boys were back in town for the Waupun Truck-n-Show parade and a little time at the pool. They have grown so much in just a month. Monday our granddaughter and the rest of the family will join the fun at our only Family Fun Day of the summer.  This summer went so fast with Mr. Dollycas in the hospital and recovering. He is doing so well. He has made a huge adjustment to his diet and continues to lose weight. He has another follow up with his doctor this week. It was a weekend of smiles and the coming week should bring several more – making my goal of smiling more pretty easy.

Happy Sunday Everyone!

This has been a strange summer. With Mr. Dollycas’ hospital stay and recovery we lost 2 months of summer plans. We try to have at least 3 “Family Fun Days” to the lake, or the zoo or the water park. None of those have happened. The weekends have been unusually quiet too without any grandkids here to visit. Natalie was here a couple weeks ago but I have seen the boys since the 4th of July. I am missing them all like crazy. Mr. Dollycas is starting to feel better so we have planned the first Family Fun Day of summer to a wildlife park that we have wanted to visit since Kaden went there on a school field trip two years ago. I still have to wait a week for the trip but I am so excited. I may get to see the boys next weekend for the Waupun Truck-N-Show but those plans are still up in the air but my fingers and toes are crossed. 🙂

A couple of months ago I wrote about our trip to the aircraft museum. The past few days have been the EAA AirVenture that draws airplane enthusiasts from everywhere. Of course traffic in the area is a nightmare but we live close enough that we can see and hear jets and airplanes fly over our house every day of the event. I wish I was fast enough to get some pictures. A friend is at the event and he has been posting photos and videos and it really want to be there. Maybe next year. The Barksalot Twins

It was a quiet week around here and it felt so good. My Dollycas went back to work on Monday and the dogs and I got back to our normal routine. Me at the computer and them napping and saving me from the dreaded mail carrier who had the nerve to put mail in our mailbox. Since Oreo has lost her hearing Nerabelle was the clear instigator. The UPS man wasn’t even noticed when he dropped a package later in the day 🙂

I read some good books, watched some stupid television,  CBS isn’t even trying to hide how blatantly Big Brother is rigged this year. Daughter #2 is thrilled Cody is back in the game, me, not at all. So if I stop watching that I will have even more time to read which I would rather do anyway.

How was your week?

Still working on my quest to smile more. July 15 marked 28 months since my son took his life. It has been a hard month, both my birthday and Mr. Dollycas’ birthday are in July, Independence Day and we always used to have a family fun day in July. All times that we get together with family shines a bright light that Kris is missing at least physically. We all carry him in our hearts. The grandchildren always make me smile though.

I hope you all have an amazing week!
