HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE!

A Week in the Life of Dollycas

On Monday, the world lost a wonderful woman, singer, actress, and Breast Cancer Warrior. Olivia Newton-John. Well-known and loved for her music and for playing Sandy in the movie Grease, in the last 30 years she has shared her breast cancer journey and she fought a hard fight going so far as to start the Newton-John Foundation Fund, dedicated to researching plant medicine and cancer. It is so sad that the article I read: “Her decades-long fight included a partial mastectomy, chemotherapy and breast reconstruction. By 2020, she was facing stage 4 metastatic breast cancer, her third bout with the disease since 1992.” No matter how hard she tried she could kick cancer to the curb but she never gave up.

Thursday, Mr. Dollycas took Daisy to the vet for a check-up. We found out we have a little piggy. She should weigh about 45 pounds and she weighed in at 61 pounds. Aside from that, she is perfect and healthy. She received all her needed vaccinations and tests run. There was a little sticker shock when he received the bill but she is our baby. A baby that needs more exercise and less food. Something the adults in this house probably need too.

Photo Courtesy of the Waupun Truck-n-Show

On Friday night we hosted our 2nd Annual Waupun Truck-N-Show Cookout. Our yard filled with family and friends for food, fun, and good conversation. A little after 9 p.m. the truck parade started and went on for about an hour. The trucks were all lit up and loud horns rang out along with some jake-braking just to make things interesting. I am happy to say everyone had a great time and we plan to do it again next year.

HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE!

A Week in the Life of Dollycas

It was a week full of tours but not a lot of reading on my part. For some reason, my reading speed has slowed way down and it is so frustrating. I used to be to have the television on in the background and read without a problem. Now I am forcing myself to turn the television off so I can give the book my entire attention but I am still falling behind. My kids tell me I am just in a slump. I hope they are right.

I did get to spend some time with the littlest grands this week and that always makes me smile.

Away from the blog NBC released news that has shaken the fans of Days of Our Lives, some that have watched the show from the beginning. After 57 years the show will no longer be televised on NBC after over 14,000 episodes. On September 12 the show will move to NBC’s streaming service Peacock. A new episode will be available to watch every day, Monday through Friday. Supporters are saying this is good because the show will not be preempted by sporting events or breaking news. But many people are up in arms because to see the show daily they will need to sign up with Peacock’s Premium service which is $4.99 a month. We had already had added Peacock to our television options so the only thing it means to me is no more fast-forwarding through the commercials. I do feel bad for those whose budgets can’t stretch one more penny which is why I hope after a certain bit of time the shows will be available on the free version.

A Week in the Life of Dollycas

Things on the homefront were pretty quiet for me last week. Mr. Dollycas has returned to the clinic for some physical therapy. He was doing really well after his back surgery a few years ago but with us basically not going anywhere during COVID except hospitals and clinics for me he wasn’t getting the exercise he needed. After just 2 visits and a set of new exercises, he is already feeling the difference. I will just have to become a drill sergeant if he tries to go back to his old ways.

My work week was anything but quiet. I have 9 Great Escapes Virtual Book Tour starting this week. I was chasing my tail to be sure to get the hosts everything they needed for the tours. Guest Posts, Interviews, Press Kits, etc. I love helping authors promote their books but the next couple of weeks will be crazy. I am so happy that I have Mr. Dollycas to help me with the daily promos.

A Week in the Life of Dollycas

This was a Natalie week. On Monday night Daughter #2 and I went to watch her play a softball doubleheader. Her team won both games and she gave that ball a great ride every time she came up to bat. After the game, the coach approached Natalie and her mom and asked if Natalie could come to a mini practice the next night because he wanted her to pitch in their Wednesday night games. I wasn’t feeling the best so Mr. Dollycas went with Daughter #2 to watch on Wednesday. Natalie had a little bit of a rocky start pitching but she got the 3rd and 4th batters she faced to strike out. Mr. Dollycas said the type of fastpitch they teach the girls is hard to learn and at only ten years old he was thrilled by how well Natalie did.

Then Friday, Natalie arrived to spend the weekend with us. She watched movies with Daughter #2, played with Daisy, had some Nana time, and helped Papa mow the lawn and water the flowers. I love when she visits. She is like a ray of sunshine.

A Week in the Life of Dollycas

I am still basking in the afterglow of the Backstreet Boys concert, playing the videos, and adding pictures from the girl’s phones. The picture above photo was posted by Backstreet Boy Nick Carter. Can you see me? LOL, we are almost halfway up on the right-hand side. They were great seats.

I spent most of Thursday with Daughter #2 at the Cancer Center for the appointments I had to cancel when I had that cold. I love seeing the Rad Doc and his nurse. They are both so positive and I was thrilled that after his exam he declared me “graduated” and that I don’t have to go back to see him for a year. Then we had a little wait for the Chemo Doc but we had our Kindles so we were both good. His appointment went pretty quick after he arrived but was disappointed to hear “I will see you in 3 months.” He also ordered another Bone Density Scan. Then we headed to the Chemo area for my Zometa infusion and of course, it was hard finding a good vein. Then one of my favorite chemo nurses came in and had the IV going in minutes. About a half hour later we were headed home.

The weekend was pretty quiet. Daughter #1 and her family are camping for the first time and Son #2 was away for the weekend. Yesterday was Mr. Dollycas’s birthday but the celebration was pretty low-key. We hope to celebrate as a family soon.

HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE!

A Week in the Life of Dollycas

The week kicked off with the 4th of July in our hometown. Rain was in the forecast but that wouldn’t deter this group one bit. We were near the beginning of the parade route and the downpour started near the end of the parade for us. The parade participants continued on and those watching pulled out their umbrellas and got under canopies to enjoy every float, band, and car.

After the parade, we headed back to my mother-in-laws for food, fun, and talk. There was plenty of all. The rain continued most of the day but we had canopies up that kept everyone mostly dry. Of course, the children were playing in the rain. Son #2 and our nephew manned the grills and everyone brought at least 1 dish to pass. We were in no danger of not getting enough to eat. Near the end of the day, we were able to get this picture. Natalie and her mom were there earlier too. I wish we had taken this picture before they had to leave.

Now fast-forward to Friday. My daughters and I had been waiting for this day for months. About mid-afternoon, we headed to Milwaukee for Summerfest and the Backstreet Boys concert. There are several stages, all kinds of food and drink, and vendors selling all kinds of stuff. We did plenty of people watching too until we headed into the amphitheater. None of us had been there before so we were excited by how good our seats were, guess I did a good job of picking them out. Sadly, when I ordered the tickets I was told there was no handicapped seating available so the girls had to spot me on the steps to and from our seats. We had taken the girls to see the Backstreet Boys back in 1999 when they came to Madison and seeing them again has been on my bucket list so few stairs were not going to keep me from seeing this show. And it was an amazing show!!

We had such a good time and the girls said I can feel free to buy tickets for more concerts any time I want. LOL

HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE!

A Week in the Life of Dollycas

It was a busy week for me at the computer this week. My inbox really blew up with book tour requests and materials for tours already booked. There are so many good books to escape into these days and I am extremely blessed to have so many wonderful authors working with Great Escapes Virtual Book Tours.

Friday was my birthday and while it was just a normal work day around here the Birthday Wishes on Facebook made my day. I really love that we can connect with so many people on that site. My kids all checked in and I thought I wouldn’t see any of them until Monday, but Son #2 dropped in yesterday with his family declaring it was Nana Day and that they were going to finish a painting project we started a long time ago. He and his girlfriend did the work while Mr. Dollycas and I played with the kids. It was a WIN-WIN for me!

I am really looking forward to getting together with family tomorrow even though more than 50% of the population in our country recently lost basic human rights thanks to our lovely Supreme Court. I know there are many protests planned and people participating but for me, it is a day to see family I only see rarely, sometimes this 1 day per year and some even longer because of COVID, it does not mean I am not upset by what is happening to our country.

Oh, and I piece of really good news, I think I am finally done with the awful cold I have been dealing with for weeks! Just need to build up my strength a bit and I will be back to my regular abnormal self!

How was your week?

HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE!

A Week in the Life of Dollycas

Well, it was quite a week not only in my life but for the whole United States. So instead of whining about the cold and cough I am still fighting, I am going to go on a bit of a rant. Feel free to scroll down to Weekly Rewind.

While waiting for the Congress to finally pass some kind of gun safety legislation the Supreme Court decided that everyone can carry a gun wherever they want. Subways, sporting events, Time Square. Several cities and states had their own gun laws but now with this federal declaration, all those laws are out. Yes, legislation was passed and is on its way to the President but so much more needs to be done. The legislation also does nothing about the Supreme Cort ruling.

And if that wasn’t enough, I am sure you all heard of  Friday’s decision to overturn Roe vs. Wade. We knew it was coming but hoped it wouldn’t. By stealing the naming of a Supreme Court Justice from President Obama and Ruth Bader Ginsberg’s death, Trump was able to seat 3 justices all chosen for their willingness to overturn the law. They weren’t qualified for those seats and they lied during their hearings but Mitch McConnell and his cronies had an agenda and this week it came to fruition. And Clarence Thomas, whose wife was part of the January 6 coup attempt and he of Anita Hill fame, stated in his opinion that the Court is not done yet. Contraception and Gay Marriage are both in his sights. He probably would be after interracial marriage too but seeing as that would affect his own life, he will probably hold back on that.

My biggest question is who is going to be responsible for all the women who die either giving birth or from a back alley abortion or other complications. Not everyone has the money to travel to a state that allows abortion. You notice the Court made no provisions for rape, incest, or the life of the mother. They also didn’t provide for daycare or extra healthcare for children born with disabilities or birth defects. They are all for telling women to have those babies but after they are born they don’t give a damn. They value guns more than they those children’s lives.

The only recourse we have our voices heard through the ballot box and at peaceful protests. We need to elect members to Congress that will codify Roe vs. Wade and will take gun safety seriously and pass laws that will protect everyone. Members who are not backed by the NRA or in bed with the Federalist Society. Vet your candidates and vote wisely and get your friends and neighbors to do the same.

I am heartened to see that many businesses will pay for the employees to travel to states still performing abortions but it shouldn’t be that way. Women’s health decisions should be made with her doctor and her family privately. My standard line for years has been, “If you don’t want an abortion, don’t have one.” Don’t press your beliefs on another person because you have not walked in their shoes and don’t know what they are facing. Sending this back to the states is ludicrous and sets women back over 50 years.

End of rant.

How was your week?

Well, I had a cruddy week dealing with this cold. I slept most of the day away last Sunday and a lot the rest of the week too. I did the bare minimum on my blog and book tours. My reading time took a big hit too. I know my body needs rest but I have things to do. LOL

Natalie arrived on Friday for the weekend and she was like a ray of sunshine. We kept each other entertained until Daughter #2 got home from work and their fun began. I headed off for a short nap that lasted until Saturday morning 🙂 Natalie made Mr. Dollycas and my breakfast, played with Daisy, and has been such a huge help around the house. I hope to feel better the next time she visits so we can have a lot more fun.

HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE!

https://www.oregonlive.com/nation/2022/06/march-for-our-lives-draws-crowds-to-washington-monument-rallies-across-us.html

I shared a picture last week about the number of mass shootings since Uvalde and had hopes we could get thru a few days without another. Well, there were 13 more mass shootings just last weekend. This weekend there were several rallies across the country calling for action on gun laws. Congress has been working on a plan that basically does nothing because Republicans won’t support anything of substance even when the majority of the country supports background checks, red flag laws, and even banning the AR-15. The youth of our country have been on the front lines and many are now old enough to vote. I think it is going to be those young adults that force the change we need. But we all have to vote to get people in office that are actually working for the country, not the dollars they receive from the NRA.

Last Saturday we had our first Family Fun Day since COVID turned the world upside down. We left the rain behind and headed to  Bay Beach Amusement Park in Green Bay, Wisconsin, where the sun was shining. The park is filled with great vintage rides and tickets for them are just 25 cents. The larger rides can take up to four tickets but all in all, it was a pretty inexpensive day and a whole lot of fun!

I have not been on a carnival ride in over 20 years so when my kids told me the Big Wheel Ferris Wheel was wheelchair accessible I couldn’t wait to get on it. Because of my disability, we also got to move to the front of the line. The staff had to put in special equipment to hold my chair in place and they did it with smiles on their faces. It was a little breezy up there but the views were amazing!

After we practically closed down the park we laughed that we still had tickets. Kaden walked up to a couple of grandparents surrounded by little kids and made their day by giving our leftover tickets to them. We could have saved them for another visit but we hadn’t been to this park since the kids were about Charlotte, Remi, and Natalie’s age so who knows when we would be back again.

We left the park and traveled across the street so the kids and the grands could drive go-carts and play mini-golf. Sadly, Mr. Dollycas was fighting a terrible head cold so he took a little rest in the car while I kept Charlotte entertained.

On our way home we pulled into a Denny’s for a late supper before we all headed home already talking about our next family fun day.

Since I usually work 7 days a week I spent this week getting caught up on blog and tour stuff and trying to find the bottom of my overflowing email inbox in addition to what I usually do every day. One day off put me behind but time spent with family is the most important part of life and I will always jump at the chance to spend time with them.

And that cold Mr. Dollycas had . . . he has now shared it with me and Daughter #2. Funny we made it all the way through COVID without having so much as a sniffle. He goes back to the office and has been sick twice and this time it spread to the rest of the household. We will be hitting it hard with DayQuil and NightQuil in hopes of getting better quick!
