She started out writing children’s stories, and her stories grew as she did. She discovered a gift for humor and a love for making people laugh with her tales, and the Trailer Park Princess series was born.

Kim loves to not only make her readers laugh and entertain them with a good mystery, but also to examine the issues the everyday people face…well, every day. Issues such as faith and forgiveness, perseverance and tolerance. Set in Lubbock, Texas, the fun books feature a cast of quirky characters, outrageous situations, a drama queen of a dog, and from time to time, a tear or two.

Kim lives with her husband of more than thirty years and two teenage kids in Lubbock, TX.

Lisa B. Thomas

Born and raised in Texas, I always knew I wanted to be a writer. Finally, after thirty-three years as a high school journalism and English teacher, I released my first novel. Having grown up reading Trixie Belden, Nancy Drew, and Agatha Christie, I was drawn to the mystery genre.

I write clean, classic whodunnits with realistic characters and situations. It’s probably because my first book was based on a true-life murder mystery from my own family. That book, Sharpe Shooter, led to the Maycroft Mysteries. I also write Killer Shots Mysteries and the Beachside Bookshop Magical Cozy Mysteries (co-written with Paula Lester.) I call my books “Mysteries with Heart & Humor,” and that’s just what you’ll get.

When not writing, I enjoy my grown husband and dog, my children, grandchildren, grandpets, photography, traveling, and antiquing (aka. buying and selling used junk).

Welcome to Cozy Wednesday!

I am so excited to have Susan Boles visit today as part of her Great Escapes Book Tour!

Hi Everyone,

Death said the Gypsy Queen is Book 4 in the Lily Gayle Lambert mystery series. When you’re an author, people always ask how you came up with that idea. At least, they ask me a lot. So, today, I’m going to elaborate on where the idea for this book came from.

I love to listen to music that is now called “classic” rock. That term gives me the shivers; because it’s the music I listened to when I was a teenager and the term ‘classic’ sounds like antique to me. Which translates to old in my mind. How’s that for several degrees of separation? Ugh. I’m digressing from the topic here.

So. Classic rock. On this particular occasion, Sign Of The Gypsy Queen by April Wine came on the radio. I was reading with the radio playing in the background when the song came on. I can remember vaguely realizing that it was a once-upon-a-time favorite song I hadn’t heard in a long time; and kind of hummed along as I read. And, then, the hair literally stood up on my arms and I focused on the lyrics.

Gypsy. Fortune telling. In previous Lily Gayle books, I had revealed that there was a circus connection among the people who lived at The Midnight Dragonfly in book one (when it was Mitchell Manor) and the person living there in book three. So. Right then I realized I needed a fortune-teller predicting something that would happen in book four. Every circus has a fortune-teller, right?

But, why was she in Mercy, Mississippi by herself? And what would she be predicting? Was she really in touch with forces beyond our understanding? Or, was she revealing information she already knew in a way she felt would have the most impact? Who doesn’t love the idea of a mysterious event?

In Death said the Gypsy Queen we see more of the backstory of Vlad and his sleep study at the same time we enjoy Lily Gayle, Dixie and Miss Edna solving the latest murder in town. Is there a connection between the two?

I hope you’ll read Death said the Gypsy Queen to find out.

~Susan

Thank you, Susan, so much for being my guest today!

“Beware the sign of the vampire blood,” said the fortune teller. “It brings madness and turmoil.”

Lily Gayle knows what that means, but, for the life of her, can’t figure out how the fortune teller does. A quick road trip with Dixie. An unplanned stop at a roadside park. And, an hour later a dead body. Lily Gayle, Dixie and Miss Edna find themselves knee deep in another homicide investigation when the local vet assistant turns up dead behind an outbuilding at the farmers market.

Lily Gayle believes the words of the fortune teller will have a major impact on the investigation but can’t bring herself to tell the other ladies. To reveal what she believes the words mean might bring trouble to another old friend. And would betray a trust. Only Ben knows and he, as usual, advises Lily Gayle to stay out of his investigation – which she isn’t about to do.

When the secret is revealed, the townspeople go mad and the fortune tellers words come true. Can Lily Gayle, Dixie and Miss Edna solve the murder before more people are harmed?

About the Author

Susan is the award-winning author of the Lily Gayle Lambert Mystery Series and a contributing author to the Brotherhood Protectors World.

A lifelong long love of all things mysterious led Susan to write cozy mysteries. Nancy Drew and Trixie Belden were the first to show her that girls can be crime solvers. Agatha Christie showed her that even small towns have big secrets. And Phryne Fisher showed her lady detectives can be outrageously individual. She lives in Mississippi with her rescue mini dachshund, Lucy, and her rescue cat of no particular breed, Zimba. She currently writes the Lily Gayle Lambert mystery series set in the fictional town of Mercy, Mississippi featuring a multi-generational cast of female sleuths and romantic suspense in the Brotherhood Protectors Kindle World.

Susan writes mysteries and set in the big city of Memphis, TN and the fictional small town of Mercy, Mississippi.

On the fourth day of Christmas,
In Mercy, Mississippi….

Four suspects lying,
Three sleuths a sleuthing
Two clues a hiding
And a very, very dead body.

It’s the Christmas season in Mercy, Mississippi. But things are far from jolly.

For Vlad Templeton the sleepy little town where he spent his childhood provides the perfect place to conduct his state funded sleep study. But when the local bank manager, who was participating in the study, is found dead on his doorstep, is it a set up…or is Vlad somehow involved?

But, when someone makes an attempt on Lily Gayle’s and Dixie’s life, the two realize they better move fast….or they might end up sleeping forever.

About the Author

Susan calls McNairy County, TN her home ground even though she has moved away. It was here, at Bethel Springs Junior High School that she began her writing career with two friends. They formed their own little writers group that was so secret they were the only ones who knew it existed. She still has some of the stories they wrote carefully preserved in a loose leaf binder and tucked away for safety.

She has worked in retail management, briefly for the Census Bureau and for many years in the investment/insurance industry in the regulatory compliance arena. All of which are left brain activities. So she exercises her right brain activity with reading and writing…just to keep both sides even.

Reading has been a passion since she was very young. As a toddler, her mother read to her from her ‘baby books’ and her Mother tells a story about her holding one of them upsidedown and ‘reading’ by repeating the story verbatim from memory.

Susan writes mysteries set in the big city of Memphis, TN and the fictional small town of Mercy, Mississippi.

Cozy Mystery
2nd in Series

Print Length: 106 pages
ASIN: B06XK2Q44N

Synopsis

Lily Gayle and the gang set out to find a killer after local baker Luxen Natolovich is found dead hours before the grand opening weekend at the new Bed and Breakfast in town, Midnight Dragonfly. As Lily Gayle deciphers the clues around Luxen’s death she uncovers a conspiracy of lies and half truths that could very well be tied to a refugee camp in Mississippi during World War II. The deeper Lily Gayle digs, the deeper the conspiracy runs, and the closer she comes to being the killer’s next victim.

Praise  for Cherry Cake and a Cadaver
by Susan Boles

Ms. Boles has a good sense of mystery, and using clues to lead the reader down the right path to guessing the outcome, if the reader is paying close attention.
~Lisa Ks Book Reviews

Ms. Boles is a master baker of cozy mysteries. The multiple story elements are mixed together just right and make Cherry Cake and a Cadaver a worthy addition to the series and a tasty read in its own right.
~Back Porchervations

This is a very light weight cozy. I appreciated the sassy southern mature characters.

She still has some of the stories they wrote carefully preserved in a loose leaf binder and tucked away for safety.

Death of a Wolfman is the first in the Lily Gayle Lambert mystery series. Her previously published romantic suspense novel, Fated Love, is a contemporary paranormal romantic suspense (with a twist of paranormal) set in Memphis, TN. Her first novel, Kate’s Pride, is a historical women’s fiction set in West Tennessee in the aftermath of the Civil War. The novel is loosely based on her own Great Grandmother and published under the pen name Renee Russell.

Life got in the way of writing for many years but now she’s come back to her early love.
