I am so happy to have Terrie Farley Moran Farley back for a visit!
Her new book written with Laura Childs, Crepe Factor was released on October 4!
A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to attend Bouchercon, the largest mystery conference in the world. To add to my joy, Bouchercon 2016 was held in New Orleans, home of Carmela Bertrand, owner of the Memory Mine Scrapbooking Shop and her Best Friend Forever Ava Gruiex.
Cozy lovers that you are, I’m sure everyone is familiar with Carmela and Ava from the totally fun and always mysterious Scrapbooking Series by Laura Childs. I am shining my buttons when I say that I have been honored to assist in writing two recent books in the series, Parchment and Old Lace
, as well as the newly released Crepe Factor
.
I have to be honest. I half expected Carmela to be standing at the gate when I arrived at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. I could almost see her struggling to restrain Boo and Poobah while they strained at their leashes trying to give me big, sloppy kisses. And I could hardly wait to see what kind of sexy, crazy outfit Ava would be wearing.
Alas, that was a fantasy unfulfilled.
Still, I decided to satisfy my imagination by walking in Carmela’s footprints all over the Big Easy. My very first stop when I ventured out of my hotel was Governor Nicholls Street—home of Memory Mine, which is right on the cover of Crepe Factor. I brought you all a picture of the corner so you could see how the shop fits right in with the neighborhood.
And then I roamed around the French Quarter imagining Carmela and Ava scrambling from here to there, sometimes doing errands but often investigating a murder, no matter how many times Carmela’s handsome beau, Detective Edgar Babcock, warns them off.
Everyone posts pictures of the French Quarter at night but I want you to see the daytime look of the French Quarter. This is how Carmela and Ava see it in their everyday life.
And I can’t leave without showing you this terrific picture (thanks to author Robert Mangeot!) of Jackson Square with St. Louis Cathedral rising majestically in the background. And in this close up of the Cathedral, I can imagine Carmela walking through those doors to meet Babcock for a romantic holiday concert.
Now while you are reading Crepe Factor, you can see the streets just the way Carmela does. Oh and I have a message from Carmela and Ava:
Laissez les bons temps rouler! Let the good times roll!

The Winter Market in the French Quarter is in full swing, but murder isn’t taking a holiday in the latest from the New York Times bestselling author of Parchment and Old Lace…
The holidays are a busy time for scrapbook shop owner Carmela Bertrand—but not so hectic that she doesn’t have time to enjoy browsing the booths at the Winter Market with her best friend Ava. The last thing the ladies expect to see is a lurching man stabbed by a serving fork, dying in front of them.
The victim is loathed restaurant critic Martin Lash, who posted his scathing reviews on the Glutton for Punishment website. And the prime suspect is New Orleans restauranteur Quigg Brevard—who was seen giving the critic a tongue-lashing minutes before someone stuck a fork in him. An old flame of Carmela, Quigg asks for her help, which does not please her current beau, Detective Edgar Babcock, to say the least.
Before her relationship is the next victim, Carmela needs to find a murderer who had no reservations about punishing the culinary curmudgeon…
